Ofcom Update: Television Access Services: Fourth Quarter Report for 2007

Ofcom today published its report on the provision of access services by broadcasters (subtitling, signing and audio description) for the fourth quarter of 2007.

While most broadcasters met their obligations in full, those which did not will be required to make up the shortfall during 2008. These amounts will be added to the 2008 targets and shown in the access service reports. In view of the significant shortfalls on some channels, Ofcom has asked these broadcasters to produce remedial plans. Ofcom will continue to monitor the Access Service provision of these broadcasters. They will be required to report to Ofcom on a monthly basis against the remedial plans, to ensure the obligations are met throughout the year.

Ofcom expects to publish the first quarterly report for 2008 (covering the period January to March) by the end of May.

6 out of 10 people don't know what Audio Description is. Do you?

Audio Description (AD) is a free TV service available on over 70 channels for people who have difficulty seeing what is happening on the screen. Like a narrator telling a story, an additional commentary describes body language, expressions and movements - allowing you to hear what you might not be able to see, so you don't miss a thing.

Audio Description: making the story clearer
