Ofcom Update: Ofcom publishes radio update for October

Ofcom has today published its radio update for October. The update includes details on the approved Format change to 100.4 Smooth FM (North-West England). 
 
This approval will allow the station's Format to change to “an easy listening station featuring easy listening music including jazz, soul, blues and R&B targeting an audience aged 50 plus.”

Ofcom Update: Ofcom proposals on co-regulation of equal opportunities in the broadcasting sector

Ofcom today published a consultation proposing that the co-regulatory system operated by the Broadcast Training and Skills Regulator should be extended to cover equal opportunities.

 

The proposal is designed to encourage broadcasters to take a more positive attitude towards the promotion of equal opportunities, build collaboration between broadcasters, and place responsibility for promoting equal opportunities where action can be taken most effectively.

 

The consultation proposes that the BTSR should take up its new responsibilities from 1 April 2008.

Ofcom Update: Changes to channels on Freeview

Ofcom today published details of two changes to the Multiplexes that affect certain channels on Freeview.

 

UKTV History has moved from Multiplex C to Multiplex D and has reduced its programming hours to twelve hours a day, seven days a week.

 

Dave TV has replaced UKTV History on Multiplex C and will broadcast twenty hours a day, seven days a week.

Ofcom’s Community Radio Fund Panel is today inviting community radio operators to apply for grants from the 2007/08 Fund. The Fund has been established to help fund the core costs of running a community radio station.

Ofcom Update: Transmitter details for Wales and ITV West region and updated information for other regions

Ofcom has today published details of the transmission characteristics which the television transmitter network will adopt at switchover in Wales and the ITV West region. This information is intended to help systems installers make initial preparations for switchover.

 

Ofcom has also today updated the transmitter details documents already published for the Border, Westcountry, and Granada regions, as well as for the existing 81 digital transmitter sites. A summary of the changes is contained in each document.

The Consumer Panel today announced that chairman, Colette Bowe will stand down from her role in the first half of 2008.
 
Ofcom Chairman, David Currie, said:  "I want to thank Colette for the important contribution she has made over the last four years.  The Consumer Panel was created to advise on consumers' interests and Colette's leadership has been a key part of the Panel's success."
